KEYWORDS: Osteoporosis, older adults, treatment.

ABSTRACT: The treatment of osteoporosis is becoming more and more relevant because of the accelerated aging of the world's population, which is why its study and development is of great importance for health personnel and the scientific community.

OBJECTIVE: To study the treatment for osteoporosis in older adults.

MATERIAL AND METHODS: We carried out a systematic review using the PRISMA system, using the Pub Med search engine and the combination of words (treatment) AND (osteoporosis) AND (older) AND (adults) obtaining 4,365 results, which were reduced to 1,218 after filtering those that were published from 2019-2024 and, after excluding writings taken from books or documents, 330 articles were obtained.  From this grand total we selected 45 articles, of which 30 were included in this review.

RESULTS: The indication for pharmacological treatment is not related to sex, the use of Alendronate, Risedronate, Zoledronic Acid, Ibandronate, Denosumab, Teriparatide and Romozumab is the same in men and women.

CONCLUSIONS: The treatment of osteoporosis has many options; it must be personalized, according to the clinical characteristics of each patient, as well as its follow-up.
